Today, I attended the Genealogical Society of Okaloosa County Christmas Party. How great to be associated with such great people. Some of them work full time jobs, some are retired, and some, like me, work in the home. We come from different backgrounds, but we all have something in common: genealogy and family history work.
The work we do, the research, the preservation of records, etc., is far beyond the definition of being a "hobby". It's more like a passion. Though the members of the society have little or no association with each other except the meetings, we have bonded through our pursuit of ancestors. Because of personal circumstances I haven't attended most of the meetings this past year, but thanks to the hospice volunteers I was able to leave town, today, and travel to meet with my friends. Their friendship and support has been constant.
I have given the members and the society what I could over the years; some of my comments and "Know it all" opinions they could have done without. But by sharing with each other, the good and the bad, we are a kind of family. Good families forgive and move on. My genealogy society is a wonderful family.
